When it comes to sustainability, people's first reaction is to consider whether a material is renewable, how long it will take to degrade after being buried in the soil, and whether the carbon footprint is scientific. According to the assessment published by the United Nations, the carbon emissions of the fashion industry account for 10% of global carbon emissions, and other organizations estimate that the carbon emissions of the fashion industry are between 2% and 8%, and the wastewater discharge of the fashion industry accounts for about 20% of the world. More and more people are beginning to pay attention to the impact of the fashion industry on the environment and realize the necessity of applying sustainable concepts to the fashion industry.

The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) was created by Control Union (CU) in 2008 to set unified standards for the use and production of recycled materials worldwide. From January 1, 2011, Textile Exchange (TE) took over the ownership of GRS. GRS is a set of globally recognized, voluntary, comprehensive product standards that cover requirements for the use of recycled materials, production and sales supervision chains, social and environmental responsibility practices, and chemical use restrictions. Its goal is to promote global sustainable development, widely adopt recycled materials, and minimize the negative impact of recycled material production.
